1st Annual General Meeting

On Sunday, 1^st March 2009, the first convention of Gurung people living in the Netherland was held in at Amsterdam (Vrolijkstraat 313/2).

The meeting was organized by Shiva Gurung, and hosted by Sunul Kumar Gurung at his residence.

During the meeting, the following discussions were carried out.

• Gurung peoples living in the Netherlands agreed to found a new association.
• The name of the association will be “Gurung Samaj Nederland” GSN.
• The first proposal of the name was “Tamu Samaj Nederland” as it preserve uniqueness as the “Tamu” refers to the Gurung people in its own language, although by “Gurung” the group were known in Nepali language. Because of unknowing this definition among many Gurung people, the second name, “Gurung Samaj Nederland” has been considered more appropriate. It will at least help to reduce any confusion gurung people may have.   
• The association will organize some of their traditional and cultural festivals.
• During the meeting, a temporary committee of 15 members was found (See the list below).
• This temporary committee will mainly perform all the official matters such as, writing of the statutes, registration of the association, and holding the election of the board of GSN.
• Until the election of the GSN Board, this committee will also organize the festivities falls within the period.
• The membership fee was set as, 15 Euro per person, and 25 for family.
• The membership fee will be collected only after the registration of the association at Nederland Chamber of Commerce (Kamer van Koophandel). But, for the time being, a donation from the individuals were collected to carry out some necessary activities as well as formal procedures of the association.
